Peter Martin’s practice investigates the atmospheres and architecture of the urban environment using traditional stained glass techniques. His interests lie in the aesthetics of our built surroundings with their cultural and social codings, symbols, and affects. Working with the narrative and visual potentials of stained glass, his works draws on and intensifies subconscious sentiments and attitudes toward our built environs. His works are representations of how our passages and journeys through the city become part of us and how we, through these urban interactions, become part of the fabric of the city itself.
Peter Martin graduated in 2014 from CIT Crawford College of Art and Design in Contemporary Applied Art (Glass). He is currently based in the Backwater Artists’ Group Studios in Cork city. During his time at CIT CCAD, he was selected for an exchange program with Shanghai University where he studied glass casting. In the summer of 2015, Peter undertook a stained glass traineeship in Derix Glass Studio, Germany.
