`Just Ask` Restaurant of the Month December 2009
Nash 19, located on Prices Street in Cork City, has been named as the recipient of the December ‘Just Ask Restaurant of the Month’ award in association with Bord Bia and the Georgina Campbell Ireland Guide. ‘Just Ask’ is a Bord Bia campaign which aims to encourage consumers to look for information on where their food is coming from when eating out, and encourages chefs to provide this information on their menus.
The Just Ask campaign has been established to support both large and small artisan suppliers, encouraging both Irish diners and visitors from abroad to support restaurants that are in turn supporting local suppliers. To enter the Just Ask Restaurant of the Month competition, chefs are asked to submit their menus to Georgina Campbell which are then judged on the information provided about the sourcing of their ingredients.
Speaking about Nash 19, Georgina Campbell said, “Simple food cooked honestly’ is their mantra and the day starts early, with a procession of deliveries from local producers and suppliers, and the bakers already busy making the fresh breads, scones and pastries that will be needed for the day.
The lunch menu changes every day, depending on the availability of fresh seasonal produce, many dishes are coeliac friendly and this is highlighted on a blackboard, as is a small but carefully chosen wine selection (mainly from small producers) which changes monthly.”
Speaking about the award, Clare Nash said; “We are members of Good Food Ireland and continually source fresh, local and indigenous produce from vegetables, fresh sustainable catches and meats. We are thrilled that our efforts are recognised by this award and would like to thank each and every one of our fantastic suppliers who provide us with such delicious produce on a daily basis.”
To get involved in Just ask, or to find out more, see www.bordbia.ie. With so many great value restaurants right on your doorstep, eating out is still on the menu.

Nash 19 Rated as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in Ireland
Nash 19 has recently been included in the 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland 2009. Some of the things John & Sally had to say about Nash19:
Is there a harder-working, more-dedicated culinary crew anywhere in the country than Claire Nash and her team?
Nash 19 reverberates with the ambition, dedication and circumspection of its staff. You need only walk in the door to get caught up in this cacophony of creativity, and it’s the reason why we rate Nash as one of the best places to eat in Cork city. That rating is based not only on delicious food – though the food, of course, is undoubtedly seriously delicious. It is also based on the character of the staff who work here. You can say, for instance, that you will only find staff like these in Cork city. They have a naturalness about them, a lack of side, that is truly disarming, and which reminds us of the comment by Tim Severin, regarding the folk of West Cork: “the quintessential decency and good nature of those around me... the quirky sense of humour, the easy-going acceptance of human foibles, the instinct to trust... the cheery confidence that everything will turn out well”. Everything turns out well in Nash 19, from food to style to service, and lucky old us that it does.
